Agreeing to these terms

By downloading or using Alleytale, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the app. You need to be old enough to enter into a contract where you live, and to hold a valid payment method if you want to buy credits.

The service

Alleytale is an AI audio walking guide. It uses your location to find places near you and narrates their stories in a voice and tone you choose. There is no fixed route. Stories surface from your surroundings as you walk.

Stories are generated, not verified

The narration is generated by AI from public sources such as Wikipedia and OpenStreetMap. It can be incomplete, out of date, or simply wrong. Enjoy it, follow it up, argue with it, but please do not rely on it for anything that matters, such as whether a place is open, safe, or open to the public.

Walk responsibly

Alleytale is a companion, not a navigator. Stay aware of your surroundings and follow local traffic, access and safety rules. However good the story is, the road is still the road. How you move through the world is your responsibility.

Credits

Alleytale runs on credits rather than a subscription. Everyone gets a small free allowance each month, which doesn't roll over. Credits you buy never expire.

Because every story is generated on demand and costs us real money in AI processing, purchased credits are non-refundable and cannot be exchanged for cash, except where the law where you live says otherwise.

If you switch on auto top-up, we will buy the pack you selected whenever your balance falls below the threshold you set, until you switch it off.

Your account

Keep your account to yourself and your sign-in secure. You can delete your account from inside the app at any time, which removes your walks, saved facts and memory. Any unused credits go with it. We may suspend an account that abuses the service or puts it at risk.

Content and ownership

You keep the rights to whatever you contribute, such as a photo you attach to a question. You give us permission to process it so that the app can answer you.

The name, the design and the software belong to us. The underlying material comes from open sources: Wikipedia content under its Creative Commons licence, OpenStreetMap data under the Open Database License. The narration we generate is for your personal use.

Availability

We work to keep Alleytale running, but we can't promise it will always be available or error-free. We may change or retire features as the app evolves. If we retire something you have paid for, we will be fair about it.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the app evolves. If we make a material change we'll let you know in the app; continuing to use Alleytale means you accept the current version.
